My Story:

Shanice is the granddaughter of civil rights activist and war veteran Eddie Mack Turner. An alum of Year Up Atlanta, she strives to make the world better one day at a time. After graduating, Shanice served as an AmeriCorps VISTA with United Way of Greater Atlanta & Points of Light. This experience launched Shanice into serving and leading multiple boards and associations through the National Council of Young Leaders, displaying her passion for service and expertise in youth and community development.

Shanice understands the need for underserved and at-risk youth. At Year Up she serves with the local Year Up Atlanta Alumni Association.  Shanice encourages and supports youth ages 12-19 at Ray of Hope Christian Church. Where she facilitates group sessions. Shanice motivates all youth through her public speaking and drives for equal opportunities. 7 Second Resume Shanice.

Could you summarize your work experience and skills in seven seconds? Even the most sophisticated professionals would find it hard to pitch themselves in under a minute. However, there is a select group of young adults who put the pros to shame and capture the attention of recruiters nationwide.

Opportunity youth, or those between the ages of 16 and 24 who are neither enrolled in school nor currently working, are successfully doing the seemingly impossible by proving that they are more than what is on a resume. They are, in fact, an overlooked and untapped talent pool for employers. And in 7-seconds they’ll tell you why.

Service as a Solution: A Weekend of Remembrance and Impact

Service has the potential to transform communities and bring people from all walks of life together through a common purpose and a shared goal. This weekend, I saw that potential activated when a new class of ServiceWorks AmeriCorps VISTAs began their work in support of the economic progress of young people as the country remembered those we lost 15 years ago on September 11.

On Saturday, September 10 in New York City, Citi joined volunteer service champion General Stanley McChrystal to help kick off another year of ServiceWorks as part of the Citi Foundation’s Pathways to Progress initiative.
