Beginning The Process

Phase 1

Take What You Have in Stock! You are on your way to beginning your journey! (Horray) This first step in being myself being a thought partner & collaborator to increase your business, product or service. It’s important to know the risk for adding additional line items; we want to make sure we can maximize the time and support for you. Let’s go over what your current needs and items may need to be developed. Some things that will need to be considered are:

Make sure that you take stock of what you are trying to do

Theory of change: A map of a program or intervention, connecting program activities with the goods and services it will produce (outputs) and showing how these link to the intended results (outcomes) which measure the program’s impact. Here are some items to consider as we work together

  • Assumptions: The conditions that must be in place for a certain part of a program to work as expected.

  • Activities: The day-to-day tasks an organization must undertake in order to provide a product or service.

  • Outputs: The products or services produced by program activities; deliverables. The provision of outputs is typically under the control of the program and is related to the quantity and quality of program implementation.

  • Outcomes: The intended results of a program; the change it seeks to create. Outcomes are typically outside the control of the organization. This is where the “theory” comes in; the organization has reason to believe that the provision of outputs should lead to the intended outcomes, but key assumptions will need to hold and outside factors will also influence these outcomes. Often programs will have several linked outcomes they are seeking to achieve.

  • Impact: The word “impact” is used in many different ways; we view impacts as the changes a program seeks to make—impacts are the measure of program outcomes.

Questions to Consider:

  • What is preventing your business from growing?

  • Are you looking for a product or service that can sustainable over time?

  • Do you have a budget and who is your target market?

  • Where is my current and projected cash flow? Can I afford to invest in ongoing support services?

  • Will I need long-term assistance with the project that I have?

  • What makes your venture profitable and/or financially sustainable?
